NI Chamber of Commerce appoint new Chief Executive

The Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce have announced that Frank Hewitt is to become its next Chief Executive, succeeding John Stringer at the start of April.

Mr Hewitt will succeed as Chief Executive after he completes his tenure as Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure. He has also previously been Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Growth Challenge, and Deputy Chief Executive of the Industrial Development Board.

The Chamber President, Timothy Quin, in announcing Mr Hewitt's appointment, said: "The Chamber of Commerce has gone from strength to strength under John Stringer's direction and has by far the largest membership of any business body in the Province. Frank Hewitt will drive the Chamber forward in all its activities and ensure that it remains, even more prominently, the voice of business in Northern Ireland".

John Stringer is leaving his position to take up the post of chairman to the Northern Ireland region of Postwatch, the body that represents the interests of Consignia customers.

He replaces Sir John Semple, who left Postwatch to become director of Northern Ireland affairs with Consignia.
