Jobs Fears At Offaly Building Firm

A Tullamore concrete firm is preparing to lay off 30 employees, according to reports.

Condron Concrete is believed to be making some of the redundancies later this month, with other jobs set to go by the end of the year.

The firm, which produces concrete pipes, will retain 29 staff.

Tullamore Cathaoirleach, Tommy McKeigue blamed the economic downturn, citing the particular effect felt in the construction sector.

Mr McKeigue said cuts in road building projects had not helped matters.

He said the town council would now work harder to attract investment to Tullamore.

There has been no official comment from Condron Concrete.
