Midwest Hit By Further Job Losses

The Shannon region has suffered another jobs blow today with the news of 26 lay-offs at Sky Handling Partner.

The company, which operates at Shannon Airport, says it has been forced into the decision because of a decline in air traffic at the facility.

The company provides ground and cargo handling services and employs around 350 people in Shannon and Dublin.

Meanwhile, the Dole queue has been called the biggest crisis affecting the country.

The Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed (INOU) said today that its pre-Budget submission called on the Government to "urgently review its priorities".

"The language of economics and its concerns have dominated the public debate to date and here is an implicit presumption that society must fall into place behind the economy," noted Bríd O’Brien, Head of Policy and Media with the INOU."
