Tánaiste highlights importance of Italian exports
Tánaiste Mary Harney has stressed the importance of "the Italian connection" to Irish businesses, following figures that reveal two-way trade between Ireland and Italy is worth in the region of €2.8 billion – and growing steadily.
Speaking at the recent Enterprise Ireland Trade Awards in Milan, Ms Harney, detailed notable Irish successes in the highly competitive engineering and consumer product markets, in addition to other buoyant sectors that include IT, software, telecommunications, and other high technology products and services.
The Tánaiste went on to name Cork company Punch Industries as the winner of The Italian Trade Award. Manufacturers of shoe care, fabric care and household products, the Award was given in recognition of the company's major success in launching its L'acchiappacolore colour run preventative product in Italy last year.
The Tánaiste said: "Ireland and Italy are enjoying a friendly and mutually beneficial relationship and are doing more business than ever before in trade, investment and tourism."
She added: "Italian partners are an important link for Irish companies. We want to recognise that, without their efforts, a large part of Irish-Italian trade would not take place. Their continuing support and commitment to Irish companies is greatly appreciated".
