School campus closes following vandalism attack
A school in County Down has had to close one of its campuses for the day following a vandalism incident.
The Castle campus at Bangor Academy closed on Monday March 11 after windows were smashed and furniture destroyed in 14 temporary classrooms. The canteen and an office were also damaged.
The incident happened at about 8pm on Sunday March 10.
Principal of the school William Hyndman said the attack was an “absolute disgrace”.
“In many cases teachers desks have been damaged, papers have been strewn across the floor filing cabinets have been opened, and there seems to be fair amount of damage done to our pupils work, but I would need the teachers to come and check that.
“This campus provides for about 1,000 children. I think it is an absolute disgrace that the children are being denied their education because of vandalism,” he said.
Mr Hyndman said he expected the Castle campus would re-open on Tuesday.
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Heavy Snow Closes Over 80 Schools
Over 80 schools across Northern Ireland have been closed as the heavy snow continues to cause disruption on Tuesday morning. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, as the snow is continuing to affect many roads. Areas which have been majorly disrupted include Lisburn, Castlereagh and Carryduff.
