Larne Asda Construction Progressing
Building work on a Co Antrim Asda store is continuing to progress - with piling work already well underway.
As the landscape at Redlands in Larne changes to turn the site of the former Ferrymasters depot into a £20 million store, a spokesman for the supermarket giants confirmed that construction work was "progressing well".
"It is pushing forward and we are looking towards opening in summer 2010," said Philip Bartram, Asda's Property Communications Manager.
"Everything is going according to plan and we are very happy with the support from local people and to have planning permission.
"It will mean more choice for local shoppers and up to 250 new full and part-time jobs. That's on top of the various work generated by the construction work itself," he said.
A number of Larne councillors took the opportunity recently to see the ongoing work and to hear from representatives of McKenzies (NI) Ltd how the construction work is progressing.
Developer Sergio McKenzie explained that piling work had already begun and was generating a lot of interest from the public.
"A lot of people are stopping and having a look at what’s going on. We have 30 men on site at the minute and up to 150 in six weeks time.
"The work is going well and things are taking shape," he said.
