O'Kane Death Apology
The SDLP Foyle MLA Pat Ramsey has welcomed the apology from the NI Health Minister following the swine flu death of Derry teenager Orla O'Kane. However, Mr Ramsey said a full investigation was required into the circumstances of her death. "I met the Health Minister and the Chief Medical Officer Dr Michael McBride at Stormont and they assured me there will be a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death," he said, noting that the apology from the Minister to Orla's family will come as a small reassurance to her loved ones at this difficult time. However, he said: "We need to see an improvement in protocols and a new process of communication procedures to ensure no other family are placed in the same dreadful and tragic situation as the O'Kanes."
