Lady Trimble's UUP Nod
Lady Trimble could be poised to challenge Jeffrey Donaldson's parliamentary seat at the next general election.
Ulster Unionist members last night selected Lady Trimble as their candidate for the Lagan Valley constituency.
It is believed Lady Trimble, the wife of former UUP leader David Trimble, (both are pictured here) was the sole contender for the candidacy.
Her selection will now have to be approved by a joint committee of Ulster Unionists and Conservatives.
However, the Tories are widely believed to favour Belfast entrepreneur Sheila Davidson for the Westminster seat.
A spokesman for the UUP told BBC News the process of deciding on a candidate was not over.
Mr Donaldson, the incumbent MP for the Lisburn area, defected from the UUP to join the Democratic Unionists five years ago.

Pedestrian Injured In Belfast Hit-and-Run
The PSNI have issued an appeal for information following a hit-and-run incident in the Botanic Avenue area of Belfast in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officers were called to the scene shortly before 1.30am after a male pedestrian was struck by a maroon Mazda. Despite being injured, the pedestrian left the area before police arrived.

Police Appeal Following Burglary In Ahoghill
Detectives are appealing for information following a report of a burglary in Ahoghill on Tuesday, 12th November. Police received a report that the back door of a house on the Ballymena Road was forced open shortly before 6pm.

UUP leader's wife to stand in Lagan Valley
The wife of Ulster Unionist Party leader David Trimble is set to stand as a UUP candidate for Lagan Valley. Daphne Trimble said she wanted to contest the seat, which is currently held by former UUP stalwart Jeffrey Donaldson, because it was a traditional "Ulster Unionist seat and the people have always been represented by Ulster Unionists".

UPDATE: With all counts declared on Friday evening the clear winners are the Rev Ian Paisley's Democratic Unionist Party who have claimed 10 more seats on the Assembly and Sinn Féin who have won 6 seats.
