Taiwan investment to create 150 jobs for Omagh
Taiwanese high tech company Ritek has revealed plans to establish a manufacturing facility in Omagh that could create 150 new jobs for the region.
Announcing details of the facility Enterprise Minister Sir Reg Empey said the £27 million investment would be used by Ritek to set up a new company Rixell Limited, which will manufacture recordable CD optical storage discs for the European market.
At a news conference on Wednesday 6 March, alongside Steven Tseng, who has been appointed Director of Rixell, Sir Reg said: "Ritek undertook an extensive search for possible locations for this project and looked at sites in America, Europe and Asia, before deciding on Northern Ireland. This investment is a vote of confidence in the new political arrangements, in the people of Omagh and the people of Northern Ireland."
Mr Tseng, outlining Ritek’s plans, said the manufacturing plant at Omagh will have 27 CD-R production lines capable of 17 million units a month at full capacity.
"Omagh was chosen over a number of alternative locations because we judged it best met our essential requirement for a pool of well-educated and easily motivated people keen to train in the skills that we need."
Founded in 1988, Ritek employs 4,000 people worldwide with manufacturing operations in Europe, Australia and the USA.

Ministers have paid tribute to the families of Omagh bomb victims, as a commemoration service was held to mark the 25th anniversary. A total of 29 people were killed by the Real IRA bomb on August 15, 1998, the biggest single loss of life in the Troubles.
