Brian Kennedy to set the stage for St Patrick’s Day in Derry

St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in Derry’s city centre will boast a free outdoor concert by one of Ireland’s top musicians, Brian Kennedy.

Taking the stage at the Guildhall Square on March 17, the late afternoon concert by Belfast born singer Brian Kennedy is to be one of the highlights of the weekend's celebrations.

In what looks set to be a great occasion for all the family, City Mayor Alderman Mildred Garfield said she believed the interest in the concert and the celebrations will be huge: “It is a fantastic coup for the City to attract such a popular musician for the celebrations. We anticipate the event to attract huge numbers of people from all over the North West and it promises to be a great occasion for all the family. I am delighted to see so many organisations from throughout the city contributing to the celebrations.”

Chairperson of the Recreation and Leisure Committee, Councillor John Kerr said Guildhall Square was a perfect location for the performance. “Guildhall Square is a popular venue for outdoor music events and it’s a great opportunity for everyone to have a relaxing and enjoyable day in the city centre. Brian Kennedy is known internationally for his live performances and I am sure the home fans are eagerly anticipating seeing him in concert again”.

Other activities planned over the St Patrick’s weekend include the annual Irish language festival, “Guth an Earraigh”, a concert performance by Dolores Keane, the return of storyteller Mickey Kane, and a Mini Parade & Pageant.
