Second phase of £1m facelift for Banbridge begins
The second phase of a £1 million environmental improvement project to revitalise the centre of Banbridge has commenced.
The project is funded primarily by the Department of Social Development who contributed £400,000 to the facelift which has commenced in the Bridge Street area of the town.
During a visit to Banbridge the Minister of Social Development inspected the work already completed on Phase 1 of the package which involved a £500,000 facelift of part of Newry Street. This included the provision of new footpaths and parking lay-bys, tree planting and new street furniture.
The Department for Social Development contributed £400,000 towards phase 1 with the Roads Service and Banbridge District Council each providing £50,000.
Speaking on Friday March 1 Minister Dodds said: “This project provides a clear framework for the regeneration of the town centre and will undoubtedly help the town meet the challenges which it has to face. It highlights the benefit of partnership between local and central government and shows what can be achieved through local community companies such as Banbridge Regeneration Company.
“There is no doubt in my mind that the implementation of this scheme will prove to be a huge success and will be a catalyst for future investment and development in the town centre.” (AMcE)

Man Dies After Bus Fall In Belfast
Detectives are investigating the death of an 80-year-old man who fell from a bus in Belfast. Police have said that they believe the man was travelling on a 2J Translink Metro bus service at around 11:15am on Friday, 08 November, when he suffered a fall as the bus travelled along Royal Avenue, near it's junction with North Street.

Funding Of £150,000 For Revitalisation Of Dromore Town Centre
Minister for Social Development Nelson McCausland today announced funding of £150,000 for a revitalisation project based in Dromore town centre. The Dromore Revitalisation Project will enhance and complement work already completed and aims to improve the poor quality environment created by boarded up vacant properties and sites.
