Fifth North/South Ministerial Council takes place
The fifth meeting of the North/South Ministerial Council (NSMC) has been held in County Fermanagh.
The Chairperson of Tourism Ireland Limited, the North/South tourism marketing company, Andrew Coppel presented a progress report on developments since the last meeting of the Council in this sector in November last year which covered the launch of Tourism Ireland.
Mr Coppel told the meeting that, in addition to the launch of the 2002 marketing programme in Dublin and Belfast on that same date, further launches had taken place in London, New York and Toronto and that further launches were planned for Germany and France.
He also revealed that the company intended to expand its Tourism Marketing Partnership to include a broader participation by industry in Northern Ireland and the Republic.
Tourism Ireland has also formally taken over responsibility for the international marketing of the island of Ireland while marketing campaigns are underway in each market in line with the objectives and strategy approved by the NSMC in November 2001.
The objective of the company is to increase visitor numbers and revenue to the island of Ireland and to support Northern Ireland in realising its full tourism potential.

Whether it is 'flying your kite' surfing off Benone, (pictured) or enjoying cultural tourism in west Belfast, the way tourism is marketed has been in focus this week. Both an advance - and a more backward step - in tourism matters were highlighted yesterday as two politicians spoke out on making the most of visitor numbers.

2024 Remarkable Marketing Awards Open For Nominations
Northern Ireland's first dedicated awards ceremony celebrating individual marketers and their talents has opened for entries. The Remarkable Marketing Awards which are the brainchild of marketer Treena Clarke, founder of the hugely popular annual Big Marketing Meet Up conference will be held on Friday 31st May at the Europa Hotel in Belfast.
