Businesses Blast Justice Wrangling
Constant wrangling by Stormont's most influential politicians over the devolution of policing and justice powers has been slammed by business leaders.
NI Manufacturing said it was unacceptable for the province's devolved government to participate in in-fighting while many across Northern Ireland are losing their jobs.
A delegation from the trade group met with the Assembly's business trust at its AGM yesterday.
Bryan Gray, NI Manufacturing Chief Executive, said difficulties faced in the industry must be addressed by government.
"Talk about political consequences are ridiculous compared to the consequences of economic downturn," he said.
Friction between Sinn Fein and the DUP has intensified in recent weeks as progress over the transfer of policing and justice responsibilities to the local Executive entered a virtual deadlock.
Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness warned the Assembly could face a "full-blown crisis" if a date for devolution was not set before Christmas.
Democratic Unionists have continued to insist a local justice department cannot be established until there is full community confidence in the institutions.

Justice Ministers Discuss Proposed North-South Cooperation
Justice Minister, Naomi Long, has met with her southern counterpart, Helen McEntee TD, to discuss North-South co-operation across a range of criminal justice matters. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) on Cooperation on Criminal Justice Matters.

Ministers assure no 'two-tier' justice system
Secretary of State Peter Hain has given an "absolute assurance" that community restorative justice schemes will not become an alternative to policing. Speaking after a meeting with the Policing Board in Belfast on Tuesday Mr Hain said he wanted to "nail the rumour" that community restorative justice was some kind of alternative to policing".

Restorative justice schemes backed
The government should fund four loyalist restorative justice schemes, the Chief Inspector of Criminal Justice has said. Kit Chivers, the Criminal Justice inspector has said there was no evidence the schemes were a front for paramilitary activity.

The new 2023 Protocol will govern the use of restorative interventions in the criminal justice system in NI and details how a new accreditation process will work for organisations and individuals.
