ATM Robbery Foiled
Police who arrived at the scene of a failed attempt to dig-out an ATM bank machine said they discovered a Caterpillar digger with its engine still running and another Nissan vehicle. They are investigating the attempted theft in south Armagh which saw the thieves take a digger from nearby road works before attempting to rip the ATM from a wall in a family-owned petrol station in Bessbrook. The gang, who had also brought a pick-up vehicle to the scene, were not able to steal the ATM but did cause damage to the brickwork of the building. It is the 19th attempted ATM theft in Northern Ireland in recent months. Officers were quickly at the scene after being alerted by local residents at 7am on Sunday. UU Man Dies In River Accident
The head of administration in the Faculty of Life and Health Sciences at the University of Ulster's Coleraine campus has drowned in the River Bann. It happened on Sunday when he was leading a group, including his son, across a dangerous weir when his canoe overturned. Stephen Chapman fell from his boat and was trapped in the water at Carnroe Lock on Sunday at about 2pm and, despite frantic efforts by emergency workers and a doctor who was also in the canoe team, he died. Mr Chapman, who was in his 40s, lived with his family in Coleraine.
Police Launches Drug Protocol
The Forum for Action on Substance Abuse and Suicide Awareness (FASA) and Police launched new operational protocols (DROPZONE -Drug Removal and Operational Protocols) at an event hosted by the High Sheriff of Belfast, Councillor Frank McCoubrey in Belfast City Hall today. FASA and Police believe that everyone has a role to play in the removal of harmful substances from the home and local areas, making communities a safer place for all. Both agencies are endeavouring to enhance the safety and wellbeing of local communities by providing a confidential service to facilitate concerned citizens in the safe and secure surrendering of both legal and illegal drugs from society.
Hit & Run Probed
Police are seeking a car that drove off in the direction of Mullaghbawn leaving two people injured in a road accident on the Maphoner Road, near Silverbridge in Co Armagh. Police said a number of people were getting out of a taxi at about 2.20am on Sunday when they were struck by a car. The car did not stop. A woman in her 50s and a man in his 30s were taken to hospital where their conditions have been described as serious. Another man was also hit by the car but did not need to go to hospital.
Derry Call Centre Jobs To Be Axed
More than 300 call centre staff employed by Stream International in Londonderry are set to lose their jobs, following the company's failure to secure new contracts. The company, which provides support services for technology firms such as Dell, BT, JVC and Vodafone, has been struggling to find new business in the current economic crisis. The call centre provides customer service and technical support for computer hardware products. According to reports, some of the staff have found new jobs with another call centre in the city.
LANTRA Relicensed
Peter Mandelson, the UK Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, has announced that Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for the environmental and land-based industries, has been relicensed. Lord Mandelson made the announcement on behalf of the UK government and in conjunction with the Devolved Administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. It was based on the recommendation of the Sector Skills Councils' regulatory body, the UK Commission for Employment and Skills. Lantra delivers the skills elements of the Rural Development Programme across large parts of the United Kingdom and has made available innovative systems to support skills and business development across the sector.

The two masked men who tried to rob a McDonalds in Coleraine on Saturday morning remain on the loose. The men, armed with a shotgun, attempted to rob the restaurant in the Riverside Retail Park at about 4.45am and police said they made off on foot towards the Greenmount area without taking anything. One of the culprits is in his mid-20s, of medium build and was wearing a brown hooded top. Police have asked anyone with information to contact them.

Police Officers Disciplined For Failing To Tell Doctor About Woman's Head Injuries
Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.

Investigation Launched After Several ATM Machines Targeted In Co Antrim
Police have launched an investigation after several ATM machines were targeted by thieves in Co Antrim. A shop in Aghalee was burgled in the early hours of Friday morning, 20 April, and a substantial amount of money was stolen. The burglars attempted to take an ATM machine, however they were unsuccessful.

Police are appealing for information after three men attempted to break into an ATM machine at commercial premises in Newry. The incident happened in the Dublin Road area in Cloghoge just before 12.20am on Wednesday, 04 July. The suspects made off empty-handed.

Appeal Following Attempted ATM Theft In Ballymena
PSNI detectives investigating an attempted ATM theft at a service station on Cushendall Road in Ballymena overnight, have issued an appeal for information and witnesses. It is understood that three men were involved in trying to force the door of the room housing the machine shortly after 2am. They made off without gaining entry.
