Carpenter Carves Construction Career
A newly-qualified carpenter working on a major housing improvement scheme in Liverpool has been given a permanent job with Lovell after completing his apprenticeship with the company.
Mike Jellicoe has been honing his skills with affordable housing and regeneration specialist Lovell, under the company's apprentice training programme. Mike, 20, recently completed his carpentry apprenticeship and has joined the Lovell team carrying out a £6.2 million housing modernisation programme for housing association Liverpool Mutual Homes, installing new bathrooms and kitchens at 1,000 homes in the Dingle, Hunts Cross and Halewood areas of Liverpool.
"I really enjoyed my apprenticeship and I was made up when I was asked to join Lovell permanently," said Mike. "Every day on site is different and I'm always learning something new."
Since joining Lovell as an apprentice in 2005, Mike has worked on a variety of new-build and refurbishment schemes the company has undertaken on Merseyside.
To begin with, he studied maintenance operations, which saw him learning about construction trades such as plumbing and bricklaying, before specialising in carpentry. Mike also attended the Lovell Craft Academy national apprentice training programme at Stephenson College in Leicestershire where he studied for his NVQ Level 2 qualification in carpentry and joinery.
