UK houses price survey reveals rise
A monthly survey by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has found that house prices rose by up to two per cent on the back of strong consumer confidence.
During the three months to the end of January, prices in England and Wales increased at double their average rate since 1978.
A RICS residential housing spokesman said that the housing market was showing considerable strength right across the board and that prices had now risen above the levels seen before the September 11 attacks.
According to the survey Chartered surveyors reported seeing a rise in prices during the three months to the end of January outnumbered those who reported a fall. This figure has risen sharply from a figure of 29 in the three months to December to 46 in the latest survey.
In addition, the average amount of completed house sales ran to 51 per cent of the available stock, the highest ratio for 13 years.

Halifax report house price rises dip in July
Rampant house price rises at the start of the year have shown their first dip according to a new survey released by the Halifax. In July the average house price rise dropped off to 0.7 percent, which has been interpreted as the first sign that the early year rises of almost 11 per cent may be tailing off.

House price growth to slow in 2002
The property market is set to experience a slip in demand during 2002 according to leading UK mortgage lender Nationwide and a twice-yearly survey by the CBI and property advisers GVA Grimley. Rising costs sees Powergen announce price hikes
Powergen has announced price hikes for electricity and gas customers due to "unparalleled" rises in wholesale costs, it has emerged today. The energy company confirmed today that it will increase electricity prices by 8.9% and gas prices by 9.6% for the majority of its residential customers. The changes will be effective from November 29.
