Delays And Closures Follow Snowfalls

There is continuing New Year disruption on the roads and in the air across NI today as further snowfalls led to treacherous conditions.

Cancellations followed as Manchester Airport was closed overnight as well as flights being diverted or delayed to and from City of Derry Airport as snow, ice and freezing temperatures continued. A severe weather warning issued by the Met Office is still in place and the big freeze looks set to continue for the next few days at least with more snow expected on Tuesday.

Police are advising motorists to slow down and drive only on roads that have been treated.

The Northwest is thought to be the worst affected while motorists are advised to avoid the Nursery road in Newtownards because of icy conditions.

Airports in Scotland are also badly affected with some flights at Belfast International and George Best Belfast City Airports experiencing delays.

The Met office are warning of further snow showers as many schools remained closed across NI due to heating problems or difficulties with transportation.
