Town Resurfacing Underway
It has been confirmed this week that work to upgrade the road and footpath at Main Street, Ballyclare will run from the first week of January until the end of March. The Department for Regional Development said the substantial contract follows on from the £670,000 town centre improvement programme around The Square which was unveiled by NI Social Development Minister Margaret Ritchie back in September. Dairy – Your Secret Weapon In The Battle Of The Bulge?
Anyone starting the New Year with good intentions about healthy eating and shedding those few extra pounds should consider increasing their consumption of low fat dairy products, according to research from the University of Copenhagen. Professor Arne Astrup’s research there shows that the calcium in dairy is linked to a reduced fat absorption by the body. Dr Mike Johnston, Chief Executive of the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland explains: "There is a growing body of research which suggests that including low fat dairy in our diets can help regulate our weight. This is in addition to the other important nutrients in milk and dairy products which can contribute to overall health and wellbeing. Many people still perceive dairy products as being high in fat. "However, semi-skimmed milk contains only 1.7% fat and skimmed milk is only 0.3% fat. Lower fat options for other dairy foods such as yogurt and cheese are also readily available, and are excellent choices for anyone who wants to enjoy the benefits of dairy and reduce their fat intake."
