Man Shot In Leg

A 24 year-old-man has been shot in the leg in a paramilitary-style attack in Armagh. He was attacked in the Culdee Street area of the city at about 10pm on Thursday when four or five masked men entered a flat and dragged the man outside and shot him in the left knee with a rifle. He was taken to hospital, though his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Detectives in Newry are appealing for witnesses.

Help The Old In The Cold

SDLP East Derry candidate Cllr Thomas Conway said the current extreme weather crisis proves the need for all caring agencies to collaborate on a database of vulnerable and isolated people. "One consequence of the bad weather which must not be overlooked is that carers and home-helps are often unable to reach the people they are looking after. It should be possible for the various public agencies involved in care to get together and create a database of the potentially vulnerable and isolated for use in emergencies of various kinds. We need imaginative leadership by our devolved administration to make departments work better together," he said.
