The incident occurred some 15 miles south east of Mine Head (Waterford), 20 miles east of Youghal and 16 miles south of Tramore. One of the containers is believed to contain hazardous material (Sodium Bromate). The other six containers were carrying bird food, fire logs and medical equipment. Each of the containers are about 40 feet in size, six of them are blue in colour, one is red. The Waterford-based Coast Guard helicopter is currently on scene and some of the containers have been spotted. The vessel was travelling from Dublin to Cork when the incident occurred during a very bad storm in the area, with south-eastly storm force 10 wind and a heavy swell.

NI Sports Minister Nelson McCausland has welcomed the Northern Ireland Olympic Skeet Shooting Team at Stormont. The Minister hosted a reception for the team after its success in last year’s Home International Tournament, where it beat England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. "I welcome this opportunity to congratulate the Northern Ireland Olympic Skeet Shooting Team on winning the 2009 Home International Tournament. This event has been dominated by England for the past quarter of a century but the Northern Ireland Olympic Skeet Shooting Team won it with acclaim last year, breaking England's 25 year monopoly on the trophy," he said, last night. The competition was held in Portrush, last August, the first time it has taken place in Northern Ireland.
Insurance Claims Rise
A local car insurer has reported a significant increase in both car and home insurance claims between December 24 and January 6 as a result of the recent bad weather. AXA Direct confirmed that insurance claims increased dramatically compared to the same period last year. Claims Manager Pauline Calvert said: "The number of car insurance claims we are handling has shot up by 68% and most of these are a result of the poor driving conditions brought about by snow and ice on the roads." However, homeowners have also been hit by the icy conditions as well, with increased claims for burst pipes.
