Two Women Die On Irish Roads
A woman in her 60s has died following a road accident in Co Armagh, with another fatality in the Irish Republic just reported.
Two cars collided on the A3 Monaghan road between Armagh and Middletown on Thursday morning. Two other people, a man and a woman were also taken to hospital, however their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The PSNI are asking for witnesses to contact them as soon as possible.
The news comes on the same day as the police said they are considering a scheme where educational classes will replace some minor speeding penalties.
Drivers caught just over the speed limit could attend awareness sessions instead of the current punishment of a fine and three penalty points.
They also said that the number of speeding fines handed out in Northern Ireland increased by 20% last year to almost 34,000.
Meanwhile, south of the border, a young woman - aged just 19 - has also been killed in road collision, this time in Co Tipperary.
The victim was the sole occupant of a car when it collided with another vehicle on the Cahir to Clonmel Road at Rathmore shortly before 8am this morning.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was later taken to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel.
A man, 38, who was driving the second vehicle, received minor injuries in the collision. The road was closed for a time to allow for a forensic examination of the crash site.
Witnesses are asked to contact the gardaí in Cahir on 052 7445630 or the Garda Confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
