'Killing Bono' Shooting Begins

Filming for a new 'indie' movie has begun in Belfast city centre.

Biopic Killing Bono, chronicling the early days of U2 and lead singer, Bono (pictured) from a rival band's perspective, is being filmed around the Cathedral Quarter over the next two days.

Lower Donegall Street and Waring Street have been transformed by set designers to resemble the look of the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The film, based on the autobiography "I Was Bono's Doppelganger" by Daily Telegraph music critic Neil McCormick, is being funded by Northern Ireland Screen with help from Invest NI.

Actors including Ben Barnes, who played Prince Caspian in The Chronicles Of Narnia, Robert Sheehan, Pete Postlethwaite, Charlie Cox and Marty McCann, will take part in the movie based on a screenplay written by Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais.

Nick Hamm will direct the comedy which will feature music from Castledawson singer/songwriter Joe Echo.

Neil McCormick said he hoped that the film would be released in the summer.
