UUP Welcomes Ballymena Grants
Ulster Unionist North Antrim MLA, Rev Dr Robert Coulter, has welcomed the provision of grants worth up to £500,000 for a low carbon project in Ballymena, Co. Antrim.
"This funding, provided to support green technologies such as solar panels, hydro turbines and energy saving insulation, will enable Ballymena to remain a leading light in utilising geothermal energy," said Rev Coulter.
"The benefits of this funding extend far beyond reducing carbon emissions - in itself of the utmost importance - but will also impact on local energy costs and even employment. These are all elements which are crucial to a community under siege in the current economic climate."
The UUP’s Consumer Affairs spokesman, Robin Swann added: "The prospect of a localised district heating network, which will no doubt be looked to by other potential schemes across the UK and Northern Ireland, is very exciting for the community.
"While Ballymena itself has been laying the foundations for this important development, such funding serves to push the project forward - making aspirations into reality.
"This signals Ballymena's commitment to a greener future, and is another step towards making it happen," he added.
