Strong interest expressed in new Bombardier business jet
Bombardier Aerospace has launched its high-speed Bombardier Global 5000 intercontinental business jet, which has been designed to meet the needs of the widebody jet market.
Said to provide the widest and most spacious cabin in its sector, the Bombardier Global 5000 is capable of flying non-stop from continental Europe to central North America at Mach 0.85 with eight passengers and a crew of three. Transcontinental missions can be carried out at Mach 0.88 - faster than any other jet currently on the market.
The Bombardier Global 5000 was developed after an intensive 24-month market research program. It will offer speed, takeoff and landing performance and sophisticated systems that are similar to those delivered by its parent, the Bombardier Global Express. It will compete in the super-large jet segment which, according to industry forecasts, will require some 750 aircraft by the year 2010.
"In designing the Bombardier Global 5000, Bombardier's 12th new aircraft in 12 years, our goal is to continue developing products that address new market needs," said Bombardier Business Aircraft President, Peter Edwards. "We listen to the market and provide customers with aircraft that offer the latest technological developments and design features at a competitive price. The positive market reaction we have witnessed to date for the Bombardier Global 5000 indicates we are right on track."
The jet is currently in development, with 'first flight' on schedule early in 2003. The company has already received letters of intent for 15 of the aircraft, which is expected to enter corporate service some time in 2004.
To date, Bombardier Aerospace has selected Rolls-Royce Deutschland to supply the BR710A2-20 powerplant, which is produced at the company's Dahlewitz facility near Berlin, Germany, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Nagoya, Japan, for the detail design, manufacturing and integration of the wing section and center fuselage. NI's Defence Sales 'Take-off'
The first ever study of the Northern Ireland's aerospace, defence and security industry has just landed. The report finds that the sector contributes almost £1bn per year and 7,500 jobs to the regional economy. Defence sales alone were worth £128m to Northern Ireland businesses last year, the new survey has found.
