Oregano Caught 'Red Handed'
Two Co Antrim-based restaurateurs are celebrating the success of a coveted Bib Gourmand from the prestigious 2010 Michelin guide awarded to their restaurant, Oregano.
Regarded by the world's top chefs as the ultimate best restaurant bible, the accolade, Bib Gourmand refers to places that offer good food at moderate prices.
Catherine and Dermot Regan (pictured) run the restaurant, the only new addition to the guide from Northern Ireland, and said today that it prides itself on using local flavours with a modern twist in an informal setting since opening its doors five years ago.
The restaurant is situated in a country house set back from the road amidst trees and lawns in Ballyrobert, Co Antrim on the outskirts of Belfast, near Glengormley.
The house, which dates back to 1902, has a contemporary interior with vibrant modern paintings, high ceilings, walls with striking colours and modern furnishings complementing many of the original features.
Head Chef Dermot Regan commented: "Catherine and I are delighted to have received the Bib Gourmand from Michelin.
"The hard work, sweat and tears over the past few years have certainly paid off. We feel tremendously proud of the staff at Oregano for their enthusiasm and dedication.
"We're pleased Michelin have recognised our ethos of providing good locally sourced food that doesn't necessarily have to be expensive."
Some of the most popular dishes at the award-winning restaurant include a starter of roast breast of pigeon with puff pastry and a wild mushroom and tarragon cream.
For main courses slow cooked pork berry with Clonakilty black pudding mash; Glenarm salmon with braised fennel, baby potatoes and a tomato and caper chutney while for desserts chocolate truffle cake with amaretto chocolate milkshake is a top choice.
To celebrate the recent success Oregano are offering a set menu priced at £15.95 for two courses and £17.95 for three courses available Tuesday to Friday evenings until 7.30pm allowing foodies to sample the culinary cuisine.
