Building Boost On Way For Tesco Derry
The redevelopment of supermarket giant Tesco's Lisnagelvin store could create as many as 300 construction jobs - if planners agree their proposals.
Plans for a new £40m flagship Tesco superstore - that could also create 200 new retail jobs in Londonderry - will go on public display at Lisnagelvin Shopping Centre between 11am and 5pm this Friday.
They reveal that the existing store will be rebuilt to create 80,000sq ft of retail space.
The plans also propose the construction of a number of retail units and a new car park.
Colin Hampsey, Corporate Affairs Manager for Tesco said it is important local people express their views on the plans: "We hope that local people support our plans to provide the area with a modern, state-of-the-art shopping centre and an energy saving, eco-supermarket with a wider choice of affordable shopping.
"As part of any application process, we consult with local residents, local elected representatives, planning authorities and any other interested parties.
"An important stage of this is to gain the views of the local community and inform them of our plans and we hope to hear what local people think on Friday, February 26," he continued.
"The new Tesco store alone will create up to 200 new, high-quality retail jobs, as well as approximately 300 construction positions during the construction of the shopping centre," he said.
