McDonalds Brings 300 Jobs
Fast food giant McDonald’s is to create 250 posts in a €12m expansion, opening three restaurants in greater Dublin and one other outside the capital, it has emerged.
McDonald’s said it planned further openings next year and again in 2012 and that recruitment for the first 250 positions would begin in July of this year.
John Atherton, McDonald’s Ireland managing director, said the company’s investment was significant for staff and local suppliers.
“This expansion of our Irish operations and the creation of these jobs highlights the resilience of our business, despite the recession, and demonstrates that the core fundamentals of the McDonald’s proposition for the customer are stronger and more relevant than ever,” he said.
The news comes just as an Australian food firm announced it was to create 70 jobs at a new manufacturing plant in Dundalk.
Healthcare company Probiotec is to set up its European headquarters in Dundalk, Co Louth, where it will produce a range of weight management and other food products. Tanaiste Mary Coughlan said the investment reaffirmed Ireland's reputation for excellence in the food sector. "This investment, and the creation of 70 new jobs, is significant not just for Probiotec but for Dundalk and the border region," she said.

Offshore Company Axes Jobs
Around 150 jobs in Aberdeen and Dundee have been axed after an offshore services company ceased trading. Oceanteam Power and Umbilical has been forced to close when the firm's holding company withdrew its financial support. Staff are based in Aberdeen, at workshops in Dundee and offshore.

McDonalds Create 60 Jobs In Kilkenny
Sixty new jobs are to be created in Kilkenny city by fast-food chain McDonalds. The restaurant has announced that it will open a new premises on Hedron Road on the outskirts of the city, replacing its previous site at Patrick Street.

220 Jobs To Be Axed At Potash Mine In Boulby
220 jobs are to be axed at the potash mine in Boulby, near Middlesbrough, Unite the union which has about 800 members at the UK's deepest mine, said this was more disastrous news for the regional economy, following hard on the heels of the announcement by SSI Redcar that it was to axe about 2,200 jobs at Redcar.
