As the St Patrick’s Day festival approaches, the Vice Chancellor and the Student Union President at the University of Ulster have written to students reminding them of their responsibilities to the communities in which they live - and the consequences of any repetition of the anti-social behaviour seen on the streets of south Belfast last year. "As a University of Ulster student, you should be aware that you are a representative of the University both on and off campus, and carry with you the good name and reputation of the University," the letter from Professor Barnett and Overall President Adrian Kelly said.
Dog Attack Fines
A couple were fined £550 and ordered to pay compensation totalling £750 at Belfast Magistrates Court after their dog attacked two people in south Belfast last March. Brian and Bernie Austin, from Hillside Drive, Belfast, were convicted of being the owner of a dog which attacked Morean O'Bryne at Hillside Drive on March 20th and also attacked Mali O'Bryne on March 22, 2009. Mr Austin was fined £150 in respect of each attack and was ordered to pay £500 compensation to Ms O'Byrne and £250 compensation to Mr O'Bryne. Mr Austin was also ordered to pay prosecution costs. The court also ordered that the dog be confined to the couple's property and be kept on a lead and muzzled, when off the property.
