Hospice Staff 'On Their Marks' For Marathon
Vigorous staff at the NI Children's Hospice are being backed to win the Belfast Marathon relay by BBC sports presenter Stephen Watson.
The charity's energetic community fundraising team has urged more people to get involved in this year's event.
Stephen, a regular face on regional news, blew the whistle to commence the team's arduous training this week.
He said: "I am backing Hospice because of the tremendous work they do in Northern Ireland, and am delighted to help launch this fundraising initiative."
Hundreds of Children's Hospice supporters will pound the streets of Belfast on 3 May under the banner 'Run the City'.
Hospice fundraiser Caroline Greer is modest about her team's potential, she said: "Stephen Watson has already placed his bets on us winning the relay. He's the best man to sense a sporting victory and we are confident that we can finish the race in under 24 hours."
Caroline continued: "We have upped our game by employing the help of Half Marathon champion Joe McAllister and we are ready to do amazing things for Hospice.
"Whether we win or lose, we are proud to show Belfast that we are running on behalf of our own charity side by side with all our supporters."
In 2009 Hospice cared for over 3,000 adults, children and young people with life-limiting and life threatening conditions, both in the Adults' and Children's Hospice and in people’s own homes.
Care is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year. In addition to government funding the local charity relies heavily on support from community events such as Belfast Marathon to raise the remaining £5m needed.

Boosting the call to register, UTV's Julian Simmons and 'Mrs Walker', Olivia Nash have appealed to the public to support NI's biggest family walking event, now in its 30th year.

41st Belfast City Marathon Announced
The 2023 Belfast City Marathon and Half Marathon, sponsored by Mash Direct, has been officially launched by Lord Mayor Tina Black at Better's Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre. 2023 will mark the 41st year of Belfast City Marathon, which has become one of the leading marathons in the UK and Ireland.
