£460,000 roads scheme to get underway in County Tyrone
The Department of Regional Development has announced that work, amounting to nearly half a million pounds, to improve roads near Omagh in County Tyrone is due to begin.
The Regional Development Minister Peter Robinson announced that work will start on the £460,000 scheme to provide an overtaking lane on the A5 at Tattykeel, near Omagh, on Monday, 4 February.
The scheme is one of a series of improvements aimed at reducing accidents on the A5 Omagh to Ballygawley road, and the A4 Ballygawley to Dungannon road.
Mr Robinson said: “There is a strong need for improvements on this key strategic route from the West to the M1 and Belfast City which has been the scene of many accidents over the years.
“It is a major priority for myself and DRD Roads Service to improve road safety on this route through the provision of better forward visibility for drivers, incorporating right turning lanes where appropriate, and providing increased opportunities for safe overtaking.
“During the 20-week contract, this section of road will be subject to a 40 mph speed limit. Motorists are requested to adhere to the restriction and proceed with care.” (AMcE)

Local roads get record £80m spend
A record £80 million will be spent on structural roads maintenance this year across Northern Ireland. The figure was revealed by Deputy Divisional Roads Manager, Tom McCourt as he presented DRD Roads Service’s autumn report to Newtownabbey Borough Council.
