Translink employee wins national award
A Translink employee has been honoured at a London awards ceremony for his commitment to quality during the construction of Bangor’s Transport Interchange.
Kevin McGahon was one of two Irish winners at the “Building on Quality” Awards, held recently in London’s Café Royal. Organised by the Institute of Clerks of Works (ICW), the prestigious Awards acknowledge standards of professionalism demonstrated on specific construction projects.
Kevin, who has been a Clerk of Works for over 20 years, received a Commendation under the New Build Category for his work on Translink’s Bangor Interchange. The project, which was completed in April 2001, represented an investment of over £4 million, and saw the introduction of Translink’s first purpose-built and fully integrated bus and rail centre.
Representatives from across the UK’s construction industry as well as clients and architects were all on hand to recognise the achievement of the nominees and winners.
Speaking after the ceremony, Alan Mercer, Translink’s Human Resources Director, said: “This is a very important award because it acknowledges the integral role played by Kevin in bringing about the safe, timely and efficient completion of the Bangor Interchange – no mean feat given the size and complexity of the project.”
Kevin added: “I have been a Clark of Works for many years now and count the Bangor bus/rail project as one of my biggest achievements – bringing home this award underlines that achievement.” (CL)
