‘Imagine Belfast 2008’ to launch landmark light show
The company which is co-ordinating Belfast’s bid for European Capital of Culture 2008 is to launch a major light show at the city’s skyline landmark Harland and Wolff.
The company ‘Imagine Belfast 2008’ will be launching 'Nightlights', a light and visual show which will be projected onto Harland and Wolff's famous 'Goliath' crane. The show will visually represent the ideas and aspirations which have been sent to the company by the people of Belfast, following their recent 'Imagine..' postcard campaign.
The show will run from 25th January to 1st February, from 6.30pm until 12 midnight, using lights, images and a projector never before used in Northern Ireland.
A spokesman said: “This is a truly historic event: the Harland and Wolff cranes are an internationally recognised symbol of Belfast and this is the first time that the company has allowed their cranes to be used for a non-industrial purpose.”
Imagine Belfast 2008 is the company which has been created to put together Belfast's bid to be European Capital of Culture 2008.
A spokesman added: “This bid offers a unique opportunity for social, cultural and economic change across the province and will allow Northern Ireland to be the centre of world attention for all the right reasons. (AMcE)
