Planning Service 'To Lose Posts'
Around 300 members of staff at the Northern Ireland Civil Service are to be redeployed within the Department of Environment (DOE). Some 269 of these jobs have been indentified within the Planning Service and, according to a spokesperson for the DOE, the decision to move Planning Service staff was due to an £8m gap in funding blamed on the economic downturn. The people in the posts are to be redeployed within the Northern Ireland Civil Service "wherever possible". "Our current estimate is that in total a further 80 posts, outside the Planning Service, are surplus and will be redeployed," the spokesperson added. The revenue generated by fees from planning applications goes directly into the Planning Service, but the number of applications has decreased dramatically since the downturn in the construction sector.

Body 'Not Suspicious'
A man's body was recovered in a coastal area near Ballycastle at the weekend. Police confirmed that the man, who was 30, was found in the water at Murlough Bay, an isolated rocky area between Ballycastle and Cushendun, around 9am on Sunday and it is understood that there are no suspicious circumstances and that the death is being treated as accidental. The victim is understood to have been with a group of around five people visiting the remote beauty spot.

The Play's The Thing.....
Molière’s classic costume comedy, The Miser, produced by the Lyric Theatre, is to run at the temporary stage at the Elmwood Hall from Friday 30 April to Saturday 29 May. Backed by Ulster Bank, the production is adapted by David Johnston and directed by Dan Gordon and although written in and set in the 17th century, The Miser resonates loudly with audiences today, and tells the story of a wealthy but stingy man, Harpingon. Scottish actor Andy Gray, best known for his role in television comedy series Rab C Nesbitt, will play the title role in this period costume drama, which promises matchmakers, buried treasure, forbidden romance and missing Lords in a spiral of outrageous, comic confusion. Dublin Gangster Murder 'Inside Job'
Gardaí believe the killing of one of Dublin's most powerful gang leaders may have been an inside job. Notorious drug dealer and gang leader Eamon Dunne was killed on Friday in the Faussagh House in Cabra, north Dublin in a what has been described as a "professional" gun attack. Today, Gardaí have revealed they believe the killers had sent an accomplice to the pub to confirm exactly where Dunne was sitting. During the incident one of the gunmen walked over to Dunne, pushing people out of the way. He began shooting at Dunne from behind, discharging at least six shots from a 9mm automatic pistol. The killing was captured on CCTV inside the pub.
