Chicago Robbery Suspects Charged
Police officers in the USA have charged a man and his girlfriend in connection with an attack that left a Co Armagh student - who is studying in Dublin - fighting for her life in hospital.
Ms McShane is in a critical but stable condition after the weekend baseball bat attack. She is being watched over by her parents, who have flown to the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Centre in Chicago, to be at her bedside.
The graduate student was attacked along with a friend, named locally as Stacy Jurich, 24, as they walked to their lodgings after a night out in the city.
US police vowed to catch Ms McShane's attackers and labelled the assault "sick".
This morning, it emerged that Chicago police have charged a man and a woman over the incident with both charged with aggravated battery and armed robbery.
It is understood the pair were caught via records from cell phones and on CCTV camera using Natasha McShane's credit card.
Yesterday, Commander Joe Salemme of the Chicago Police Department revealed CCTV is being used in its investigations
"This assault occurred on April 23 at 3.30am; it happened on the north side of Chicago," he said.
"We're pursuing numerous leads, primarily from surveillance video, and we're aggressively looking at that angle."
Ms McShane had been studying since January at the University of Illinois in Chicago, on a placement from UCD. She had just secured an
internship in the US.

A student from Dublin's UCD is critically ill in hospital in Chicago after being brutally mugged on Friday. The victim, 23-year-old Natasha McShane, is from Silverbridge in Co Armagh was attacked while on her way home from a night out along with her friend Stacy Jurich (24) in the Bucktown area of the US city.

US Student Regains Consciousness
There was good news from the USA this week as Co Armagh student, Natasha McShane came out of her coma. The 23-year-old Silverbridge woman was badly beaten in a baseball attack in America last month and had been in a drug induced coma in intensive care after she was hit on the back of the head in Chicago last month.

Two police officers have been disciplined after they failed to let their colleagues and a police doctor know that a woman had sustained a head injury, a Police Ombudsman investigation has concluded. The woman died from bleeding to the brain on 24 February 2014, the day after she suffered the injury.
