First visits for Employment and Learning Minister
Carmel Hanna has undertaken her first official engagements as the new Minister for Employment and Learning.
The Minister visited Lisburn JobCentre where she met with both staff and users of the extensive array of onsite services.
Speaking in Lisburn, Ms Hanna said: “I am delighted in my first week as Minister to meet some of the staff who are working on the front line. They are playing a vital role in an area where everyone is entitled to gain the education and skills needed to build economic success and share in its benefits.
“It is my intention to continue the excellent work of the Department and ensure that those most in need in our society are afforded the best possible opportunity to improve their futures.”
The Minister then visited Halifax Direct call centre, and software development company, Northbrook Technology Ltd.
Both companies are increasing their workforces in line with recent major investment announcements and continue to use the Department’s Bridge to Employment programme to recruit and train people who are unemployed. (MB)
