Armagh Bomb Alert 'Ongoing'
People living close to the scene of a security alert in Co Armagh have spent the night out of their homes.
The alert is currently ongoing in Keady after a beer keg with wires was found on Castleblaney Road.
It is understood a bomb warning was received on Monday after which the police cordoned off a five-mile stretch of the Castleblaney Road from its junction with Rafferty's Corner in Keady.
Sinn Fein Councillor Darren McNally said last night that police have confirmed that a device has been discovered behind a hedge.
Mr McNally said: "It is not known if the device is viable or not, however the police have said that the army is now in control of the scene and that a protracted operation is beginning to assess and remove this device," noting that traffic is still being diverted away from the scene by both the PSNI and the Gardai.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, a 39-year-old man was detained on Wednesday over a mortar bomb attack on the police station in Keady last February. He was arrested in the Lurgan area.
The move came after a vehicle was abandoned in Davis Street, close to the local police station. The viable device was later made safe and removed for examination.
