Holywood Death Probed
The PSNI are investigating after a man's body was found at a flat in Co Down. The body was found at Sullivan Close, Holywood, shortly before 4.15pm on Wednesday. It is understood the man was in his 50s and while a police spokesman said initial enquiries suggested there were suspicious circumstances to his death, a probe is continuing.
NI Best Student Media Showcased
The best creative media work produced this year in schools, youth groups and the Northern Ireland Skillset Media Academy is being honoured at this year's Ulster Media Show. The four-day showcase of the student work, from 23-26 June was opened at the University of Ulster's Belfast campus York Street at an awards ceremony hosted by Tina Campbell of UTV. The six categories were judged by top media executives such as Michael Wilson, Director of Television at UTV and Richard Williams, Chief Executive of Northern Ireland Screen.
Belfast Sports Rewarded
A senior citizen who has made the tea at Crusaders since 1949, a 16-year-old ju-jitsu mentor and a footballer who has been deaf since childhood will be among those honoured at the Belfast Sports Awards - sponsored by Sports NI, Asda and the Westwood Centre - at the Ramada Hotel today, Thursday 24 June. Founded by the Belfast Media Group, the new awards pay tribute to those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to put sport at the heart of the new Belfast," said Belfast Media Group Chief Sports Editor Conor McLoughlin. Seven special awards were presented at the awards luncheon which was addressed by world champion blind waterskier Janet Gray.
Coe Backs 'Sport Comes 2 Town'
Olympic gold medallist and London 2012 Committee Chairman Sebastian Coe has thrown his weight behind the University of Ulster 'Sport Comes 2 Town' festival which kicked off this week. The unique four-day sporting extravaganza runs until Saturday 26 June in Portadown, with four times Olympic gold medal winning rower Sir Matthew Pinsent the star attraction. The pilot project from the Ulster Sports Academy is encouraging families in the Craigavon borough to get active and join in the sporting festival, and has been recognised by top sporting personnel.
Tiger Kidnap' Suspects Held
Three men have been arrested this morning in connection with a tiger-kidnapping incident in Dublin. Gardaí investigating the robbery last night carried out an intelligence led operation, which resulted in the arrest of three males aged 23, 38 and 70-years-old. A Gardaí spokesman has revealed that the Organised Crime Unit in conjunction with the investigation team from Tallaght Garda Station and Emergency Response Unit stopped a car in an apartment block off the River Road Finglas late last night and arrested 2 men. A sum of money was also recovered. They were brought to Finglas Garda Station where they were detained under the provisions of Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
