Motorbike Casualty Was PSNI man

The 46-year-old man who died following a road crash near Portglenone at the weekend was a serving police officer.

The motorcyclist died on Saturday after a collision with a car near Portglenone and was later named as Gary Grieves from Claudy.

The crash happened at the crossroads junction with the Mullaghboy Road.

The male driver of the car and a female passenger were taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision between the Blue VW Golf and red Yamaha bike, model YZFR1, to contact them at Magherafelt.

It is understood Mr Grieves may have been stationed previously at Strandtown station in Belfast but was based at Portglenone at the time of his death.

In another tragedy, a motorcyclist from Belfast died after being involved in a collision with a car in the Scottish Highlands.

The accident happened at 5.45pm on Saturday on the A82, about two miles north of Drumnadrochit, by the banks of Loch Ness.

A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said Paul Keag, 39, from Belfast, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours while an investigation into the cause of the crash was carried out.

Back in NI, and a spectator injured during the Ulster Grand Prix races at Dundrod on Saturday morning is now in a critical condition in hospital.

A rider lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into two spectators shortly before noon on Saturday.

The rider and the other spectator are in stable conditions.

Thirty-four people have been killed on Northern Ireland's roads so far this year.

Man Killed In Co Antrim Road Collision Named
A man who died in a road collision in Co Antrim has been named as Kamil Gervenka. The crash occurred on the Portglenone Road in Randalstown at around 12.15am on Sunday, 23 October. It is believed he was originally from Slovakia and worked in the area. Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

Woman Killed In Co Armagh Road Collision
A woman in her 30s has been killed in a road crash in Portadown, Co Armagh. The woman was hit by a car as she was walking on the side of the Moy Road at around 9.45pm on Tuesday. The road was closed for a short time but it has been reopened. Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
