Strabane's 'Uncle Hugo' Goes On SatNav

A regional accent is to be added to motorists' choices for their satellite navigation.

BBC Radio Ulster listeners may be used to driving along to the sounds of local man Hugo Duncan's popular afternoon programme, but they can now enjoy hearing the presenter keep them on the right path any time of the day by downloading the unique voice of Uncle Hugo to their SatNav system.

Listeners can now get from A to B with the voice of Strabane man, Hugo by visiting the Radio Ulster website and downloading Mr Duncan's very own driving directions to their SatNav device.

Fans of Hugo can enjoy being called "eejits" when they take a wrong turn, being advised not to drive over the top of roundabouts and ending their journey with a "We're here! Skiddly-aye-dee-diddle-deddle-dum", among other things.

Hugo said: "It's not like me to tell people where to go, but sure at least I'm not telling anyone to get lost.

"I know a lot of people listen to the show on the road, so now they can get some extra Uncle Hugo to help them along on those long journeys. Just pretend I'm in the car with you, hee hee! Just don't blame me if you take a wrong turn, ye eejits."

Step by step instructions on how to download Hugo's voice to SatNav devices can be found on the website as well as troubleshooting advice and further information. Recordings for each SatNav system will vary.
