Antrim Primary School Evacuated In Security Alert
A primary school in Antrim has been evacuated after a pupil found a suspicious device.
The pupils from St Comgalls Primary School on the Ballymena Road were moved to a nearby church hall this morning, after eight-year-old pupil Brendan Shannon lifted what police confirmed as a "viable device" and brought it into a classroom.
There was a second security alert at St Jospeh's Primary School in Antrim this morning, but nothing was found.
Both alerts have now ended.
Commenting on the discovery, SDLP South Antrim MLA Thomas Burns said: "There is obviously a group which is determined to cause mayhem in our town with these regular pipe bomb incidents, and until we know otherwise, we have to operate on the basis that they are prepared to cause murder as well.
"This is an attack on our whole community and the whole community must respond by working with our community policing service."
