Belfast City Council seeks nominations for 2002 arts awards
Nominations are now being invited by the Belfast City Council for the prestigious Belfast Arts Awards, to be held in November of next year.
Established in 1997, Belfast City Council’s Arts Awards were introduced to acknowledge and reward the achievements of Belfast-based arts organisations and individual practitioners.
The nominations submitted will be assessed by an independent judging panel, which will include prominent members from the arts, journalism, television and theatre sectors in Belfast.
The categories are Arts Partnership, Craft, Creativity in the Built Environment, Dance, Drama, Film, Graphic Arts, Literature, Music, Television and Visual Arts, and a Special Judges' Award will also acknowledge outstanding achievement or contribution to the arts by an individual company to the arts in Belfast.
Arts organisations and companies based in Belfast, as well as individual artists or practitioners who are Belfast based, or who have strong links with the City, are eligible and nominations will be shortlisted based on their excellence challenge and innovation.
Councillor Nelson McCausland, Chair of Belfast City Council's Development (Arts) Sub-Committee commented: “I'm delighted to see that Belfast City Council is continuing to support and profile the wealth and breadth of arts activity that we have in the City - each year of the Awards has seen the arts sector going from strength to strength - we have an abundance of creativity in this City, and this is just one way of rewarding and recognising Belfast's talent.”
For details of eligibility, criteria and nomination forms, please contact Belfast City Council's Culture and Arts Unit on tel. 028 9027 0461, email artsinfo@belfastcity.gov.uk or visit www.belfastcity.gov.uk/arts for further information. (AMcE)
