Ulster Grand Prix may be rescued

Although there were fears that the 2002 Ulster Grand Prix, one of the top motorcycling racing events in the Irish Motorcycling calendar, appeared to have been cancelled it seems that the event may now go ahead.

On Monday a meeting of officials of the Motorcycle Union of Ireland (MCUI) decided to attempt to rescue the event despite the decision by Coleraine Motorcycle Club last week to abandon the event.

MCUI officials, faced with a groundswell in favour of holding the Ulster Grand Prix, are to look at a number of options that remain open to the organisers who are in favour of holding the race meeting.

It is understood that there is to be a further meeting on December 5, at which options available will be discussed in more detail and the future of the Ulster Grand Prix will be decided. (SP)
