Flood Alert In East

East Belfast DUP MLA Robin Newton has called on the Minister for Regional Development Conor Murphy and the Minister for Agriculture, Michelle Gildernew, who has responsibility for rivers, to make statements regarding a narrowly averted flooding tragedy in the east of the city. "This was a close call for many householders. Friday's heavy rainfall caused great concern with vivid reminders of the past flooding damage prominent in the minds of householders and the business community," the Stormont Junior Minister said.

London Seminar On Policing

An Ulster Unionist Policing Board member who is the Chair of the Board's Human Rights and Professional Standards Committee, Basil McCrea, has been speaking at a Policing and Justice Seminar in London. Entitled 'How best can we deliver the most effective policing in the 21st century reconnecting police and people', the seminar involved key figures from many sectors to engage in debate on how to deliver successful policing and effective police accountability so that the police reconnect with people. "I believe that community engagement and neighbourhood policing are extremely important issues in 21st century policing. Working with all sectors of the community and building relationships based on trust is imperative for successful policing," said the MLA.

Security Alert For PSNI Staff

South Belfast DUP MLA and NI Policing Board member Jimmy Spratt has expressed concern following the news that more than 100 civilian employees at police stations have been told to review their security after they received work-related correspondence from Sodexo (the private firm) with the name of their station printed on the envelope. "This is a very serious breach of security especially given the current threat from dissident republicans. It is my view that if any of these civilian workers have to move home as a result of this, that any costs incurred will be met by Sodexo and not the taxpayer. However I sincerely hope this will not be necessary," he said.
