Man charged with attempted murder
A man has appeared in court in Belfast charged with attempting to murder two women in a knife attack in the city centre.
The man 28-year-old Kenneth John Scott, unemployed and of no fixed abode appeared at Belfast Magistrate’s Court on Friday November 16 charged with two counts of attempted murder.
The attack happened in Winecellar entry in High Street, Belfast around 1am on November 15 when two women aged 28 and 33 were on their way home after a night out. One woman was indecently assaulted earlier by a man who then came back and stabbed her in the back before the attacker turned on the second woman and stabbed her repeatedly. He then made off in the direction of High Street.
One of the women was treated for a deep stab wound to her back and the other was stabbed 14 times. Both women have been discharged and are receiving treatment at home.
A police detective told the court on Friday that he arrested Mr Scott at Musgrave police station on Thursday evening. He said that when the charges were put to him he made no reply. Mr Scott was remanded in custody until 14 December. (AMcE)
