'Beer Can' Goose Set To Recover

A Co Tyrone goose should be back to full health soon after fears that a rogue beer can that had become wedged in the unfortunate creature's beak was removed.

The near 'celebrity' Dungannon goose has now been returned to the water after receiving treatment and to have a beer can removed from its beak on Monday.

Local nature lovers exhibited a real 'can-do' attitude after repeated failure in attempts to trap the unfortunate bird.

They kept on trying to catch the creature before its condition worsened and finally caught the wretched bird.

Now, a local vet has operated on the animal after it was finally caught on the town's Black Lough after the beer can had been stuck on its beak for over a month with it being unable to feed properly.

UTV - which has been following the story - has now reported that the vet said the bird's condition has weakened, but it is expected to make a full recovery.

"He has trouble flying, and is lagging behind from the other geese. He's alive but very, very weak," Denise Corbett from the Black Lough Wildlife Group.

"However, we hope that he will survive and he will live for many years to come."
