Murphy Hails Craigavon Road Developments
Investment totalling £1.7million for structural road maintenance in the Craigavon borough this year has been warmly welcomed.
The NI Regional Development Minister Conor Murphy - who has been taking part in a meeting between Roads Service and Craigavon Borough Council - said: "Roads Service remains committed to ensuring that it can make best use of our resources and continues to deliver quality public services."
He also noted that improvement works have been completed on the B9 Drumlin Road, Donaghcloney.
The Minister, (pictured) said: "This scheme enhanced forward visibility and improved alignment over three hundred metres of roadway. Initial observations show the scheme is operating successfully. Also, Road Service delivered improvements at Clare Crossroads.
"These works improved sightlines for traffic exiting the Crowhill Road and Lowtown Road, as well as improving driver awareness of the junction for traffic on the Clare Road.
"Over five lane km of resurfacing has been completed, so far in the Borough this year, with a further nine lane km programmed for completion by the end of the year. Resurfacing schemes have been completed at Lurgan Road, Church Road junction, Portadown; Upper Church Lane, Portadown; Ballyhannon Road, Portadown; Brownlow Terrace, Lurgan and Calvertstown Road, Bleary. Further schemes are planned for Lake Street, Lurgan and Taghneven Drive, Lurgan," the Minister said.
Divisional Roads Manager Kevin Monaghan added: "A wide range of local schemes have been successfully planned and delivered in the Craigavon Borough in the past 12 months.
"The ever tightening public expenditure environment in this current year is challenging. Despite this, I remain committed to developing a programme of high priority road improvement and maintenance schemes for the Borough; so that these can be delivered as resources permit."

Two Road Improvement Schemes For Newcastle
Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has said work is to commence next week on two road improvement schemes in Newcastle, Co Down. The schemes will total £324,000. Work on a £270,000 resurfacing scheme on the U6208 Shimna Road, Newcastle, and a £54,000 resurfacing scheme on Park Avenue, Newcastle, is to start on Monday 13 January 2014.

Belfast Road Improvement Scheme Confirmed
A road improvement scheme for Waterloo Park North and South in Belfast is set to begin on Monday, 22 May. The £166,000 scheme will include resurfacing of the carriageways and reconstruction of footways. Work will be carried out from Monday to Friday between 09.30am and 4.30pm.
