Donegal Call Centre Rings Up Jobs

County Donegal has won 33 jobs for the Ballyshannon area this week after securing a contract with a new emergency call answering service centre.

The new posts are being created with the opening of the new service at the IT centre in Portnason.

The service will result in the employment of a hundred people, with the Donegal facility one of three centres which will process up to four million emergency calls per year.

Meanwhile, a Chinese corporation the ZJF GROUP has acquired cork-based company Firecomms in an all cash deal.

Employment at Firecomms is expected to increase from 18 to 30 over the next year due to a €5 million investment in research and development by the new Chinese owners. Firecomms designs semiconductors enables low-cost plastic fibre optic cables to be used for high speed communications in home, industrial and motoring applications.

The privately held ZJF Group is headquartered in Zhejiang, China and employs over 3,000 staff developing products based on plastic optical fibre. It supplies LED lighting products to major retailers including Walmart, Target and B&Q.
