Funding Secure To Complete Luas Extension To Citywest
Dublin South West T.D. Charlie O'Connor has welcomed the funding commitment from the Government for the completion of the Luas extension to Citywest.
"The Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey has confirmed to me that the Luas extension to Citywest will be completed in 2011 and funding for this is protected," said Mr O'Connor.
"The four kilometre spur will extend the Red Line to serve the communities of West Tallaght with new stops at Fettercairn, Cheeverstown and Fortunestown and serve the residential and commercial areas of Citywest, including the National Digital Park, and Saggart.
"It's estimated that an extra 3.5 million journeys will be taken yearly by 2016 as a result of the extension of the red line.
"I look forward to the opening of this extended line in the first half of next year. The Luas has been a tremendous additional to Tallaght and provides a reliable transport alternative for thousands of people every day."
