£1m Drugs Haul Welcomed
A large-scale police operation that saw a major drug seizure has been warmly welcomed by a local DUP politician.
The news that three men were arrested following the seizure of £1m worth of drugs brought praise from Robin Newton, the East Belfast DUP MLA
He was commenting after the men, aged 51, 27 and 25 were arrested after two cars and a lorry were stopped in the Belfast area.
Drugs were recovered at the scene and after follow up searches in the Greater Belfast area, Co Antrim and Co Armagh.
Police said that 60 kilos of cannabis, 50,000 e-tablets, cocaine and amphetamines were found as well as a large amount of cash.
The DUP Stormont Junior Minister said: "Those who deal in this type of vile trade are despicable criminals who have no concern for the damage they do to our youngsters.
"They are dealers in death and those found guilty of illegal drug dealing deserve the maximum penalties so they are off the streets an unable to do harm to our young people.
"Along with every responsible parent in Northern Ireland I applaud and praise the Head of the Northern Ireland Organised Crime Branch, Detective Chief Superintendent Roy McComb and all his team for another job well done," said Mr Newton.
