Building Essential Skills For Construction
CITB-ConstructionSkills Northern Ireland has launched a suite of Essential Skills resources aimed specifically at construction students and the existing workforce.
These contextualised resources have been developed to support Essential Skills Numeracy and Literacy tutors in their efforts to make programmes for construction students and existing workforce more vocationally relevant.
Speaking at the launch, Barry Neilson, Chief Executive, CITB-ConstructionSkills Northern Ireland said: "We support the Department for Employment and Learning's Essential Skills strategy and acknowledge their assistance in the initial set up of this project.
"Basic numeracy, literacy and communication skills are essential to everyday life and relevant to every sector. In developing these resources we wanted to illustrate the Essential Skills tasks with relevant construction related scenarios in order to make it easily understood by the student and the existing worker to improve the delivery of the qualification."
The CITB-ConstructionSkills Northern Ireland Essential Skills Resources have been distributed amongst the college and training provider networks and are also available to download at www.citbcsni.org.uk
